What's in a Name, Vol. 3: HERMANN A MES COTES ME PARAISSAIT UNE OMBRE
Translation:
Your shadow is your perfume
Inspiration:
An alter ego of a gentleman is his perfume. “Who goes beside you into the forest on the darkest night?” In Victor Hugo’s poem, « À quoi songeaient les deux cavaliers dans la forêt », (What Two Horsemen Were Thinking in the Forest), the narrator says, “ by my side, Hermann seemed to me like a shadow. ” Hermann is your shadow, an imaginary friend that walks alongside you. He debates you, he challenges you, he comforts you and he completely ignores you at times. Hermann is mysterious, yet you understand his essence. The fragrance is both complex and straightforward. Just when you think you are out of the dark woods, it starts pouring rain, and you inhale the beautiful aroma of a damp forest and peppery incense. Your perfume promises you an adventure.
Revelation:
We couldn’t have picked a better fragrance to celebrate Father’s Day. Hermann is a bottled up masculinity. It’s sexy, earthy, slightly aquatic even, and most certainly tells a story—the scent of your conscience, your soul, maybe even your complementary ego. The opening greets with aromatic blackcurrant buds slightly peppered for an extra punch of zest. The heart is a unique combination of calypsone and geosmin accords that work in unison to create that after the rain earthiness coming from all things living, there is a soft touch of rose absolute, a man’s heart resting on the bed of patchouli, giving the entire fragrance a solid, confident structure. No matter how the day started, wearing Hermann A Mes Cotes Me Paraissait Une Ombre is bound to make it better.

I found this fragrance at Madame Aucoin’s perfume shop in New Orleans. It smells like the inside of an antique store. Also like my grandmother’s house in Savannah, TN : oak trees, lemon oil furniture polish, Estee Lauder face cream, Wright’s silver polish, and mildew.
